Choose safety and long-term relationships over cheap freight

The timing of this SCOTUS ruling alongside Roadcheck Week says a lot about where the transportation industry is heading.
I spoke with a broker the day the ruling came out who said, “This completely changes how we have to vet carriers.”
My first thought was: "Why wasn’t that already the standard?"
For years, too much freight has been pushed toward the cheapest option instead of the safest or most reliable option. This ruling is another reminder that carrier selection is not just transactional — it’s a responsibility.
Between increasing legal scrutiny, tightening capacity, compliance pressure, and Roadcheck Week removing unsafe equipment from the road, I believe we are continuing to move toward a more carrier-friendly market and further away from the freight recession environment we’ve lived in the last few years.
My advice to shippers, carriers and brokers: Get off the spot market mentality.
Build long-term relationships with quality, asset-based carriers that prioritize:
✅ Safety✅ Communication✅ Compliance✅ Consistency✅ Service
In the long run, quality freight partnerships usually cost less than cheap freight.
